Volunteer With Us

 

Birtley Community Pool needs volunteers to help us run the building, activities and raise income.

Volunteers will play a huge part in supporting Birtley Community Pool including reception duties to support and welcome customers/public, practical tasks (such as cleaning and checking equipment), and fundraising which also raises awareness of the work we do in the local community.

 

We have 3 roles available:

  • Practical tasks volunteer
  • Administration and reception volunteer
  • Income Generation and Fundraising Volunteer

 

Practical Tasks Volunteer

Volunteers will play a huge part in supporting Birtley Community Pool at all levels especially with practical tasks on site in the building and the grounds, as well as to raise awareness of the work we do in the local community. They will also support a wide range of practical tasks as part of a wider team with staff and the Trustees to ensure Birtley Community Pool develops an effective and quality swimming pool service to local residents. As a practical tasks volunteer, you will be working within our small team to ensure all tasks complies with our policies especially Health & safety, risk assessments, Normal Operating Procedures (NOP). Volunteers are an integral part of our vision for Birtley Community Pool.

The role will include: internal operational and maintenance tasks (e.g. checking equipment works such as hairdryers/lockers, running showers to avoid legionella), external building tasks (e.g. grass cutting, sweeping car park), supporting building development (e.g. putting up noticeboards/signage, painting), pool plant operations with suitable training being provider (e.g. running a backwash), general housekeeping duties (e.g. cleaning lockers/floors).

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible volunteers with a “can do” attitude to join our team to assist in general practical tasks. Being able to use a variety of practical equipment (such as vacuum cleaners) is vital and an understanding of record keeping is desirable for recording tasks which have been undertaken. We are looking for people who can offer time either as a regular commitment or on an adhoc basis. No previous experience is required. We offer a range of volunteering opportunities to suit all.

All volunteers are expected to comply with Birtley Community Aquatic Centre volunteering policies including Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety and Confidentiality. All volunteers are expected to attend quarterly volunteer meetings and any occasional mandatory training which may be required. Times to be discussed and will be task dependant. Support will be given by a named representative from the employed staff at Birtley Community Pool.

Reception Volunteer

Volunteers will play a huge part in supporting Birtley Community Pool at all levels with reception duties to support and welcome customers/public, as well as to raise awareness of the work we do in the local community. They will also support a wide range of administration duties as part of a wider team with staff and the Trustees to ensure Birtley Community Pool develops a good customer care and delivers a quality aquatic activities to local residents. As an administration and reception volunteer, you will be working within our small team to ensure all administration and paperwork complies with our policies especially GDPR, privacy and data retention. Volunteers are an integral part of our vision for Birtley Community Pool.

The role will include: accepting payments from service users, answering the telephone, general housekeeping duties, maintaining the membership scheme, raising awareness of what the pool has to offer to the local community.

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible volunteers with a “can do” attitude to join our team to assist in general administration whilst delivering excellent customer service. Being able to use a variety of IT systems is vital and an understanding of record keeping and office based administration is essential to the role. Experience of working with the public would be desirable. We are looking for people who can offer time either as a regular commitment or on an adhoc basis. No previous experience is required. We offer a range of volunteering opportunities to suit all.

All volunteers are expected to comply with Birtley Community Aquatic Centre volunteering policies including Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety and Confidentiality. All volunteers are expected to attend quarterly volunteer meetings and any occasional mandatory training which may be required. Times to be discussed upon application but a shift will be a minimum of 2 hours. Support will be given by staff at Birtley Community Pool.

Income Generator Volunteer

Income generation and fundraising volunteers will support Birtley Community Aquatic Centre with a wide range of community engagement activities and social events to raise awareness of the work we do in the local community. They will also support the fundraising as part of a wider team and with the Trustees to generate much needed funds to keep Birtley Community Pool developing its offer to local residents. As a income generation and fundraising volunteer, you will be working within our small team to ensure all activities and events are safe, efficient and effective in order to generate income and make an impact on the local community.

Tasks may include: Support local fundraising and community engagement events, Distributing promotional materials, posters and flyers in the local area, Attending local meetings about organising fundraising events/activities, Support fundraising activity, including generating and testing new ideas, Helping with raffle ticket distribution and sales, Raising awareness of what the pool has to offer to the local community.

We are looking for people who can offer their time either as a regular commitment or at one-off events throughout the year or perhaps you can spare a few hours to help with research, administrative tasks and distributing promotional material in the local area. No previous experience is required and we offer a range of volunteering opportunities to suit all. All volunteers are expected to comply with Birtley Community Aquatic Centre volunteering policies including Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety and Confidentiality. All volunteers are expected to attend quarterly volunteer meetings and any occasional mandatory training which may be required. We are looking for 2 types of volunteers – Those happy to help out with occasional events (minimum 2 per year) and those who can make a regular weekly commitment for at least 6 months. Support will be given by a named representative from the employed staff at Birtley Community Pool.

Volunteers are an integral part of our vision for Birtley Community Pool and will provide support for a range of duties at the pool. They are part of a wider team which includes our staff and our Trustees, to ensure Birtley Community Pool develops and delivers quality aquatic activities to local residents.

You can either regularly volunteer or just give time when you can.

General Shift Times

Day shifts:

Mon to Fri – 11am to 2pm

Wed and Thu – 4pm to 7pm

 

Night shifts:

Mon evenings – 7:30pm to 9:30pm

Tue evenings – 5:30pm to 8pm

Fri evenings 6:30pm to 8:30pm

 

Weekends:

**Saturdays – 1:30pm to 4:30pm**

**Sundays – 12:30pm to 15:30pm**

 

Please note: This is based on our term timetable. We will have more shifts available during school half-terms and holidays.

Shifts marked with an asterisk (*) are priority.
