Run by the community for the community
We are a community led pool (not for profit) that provides affordable aquatic and other activities for everyone.
The trustees, staff and volunteers of Birtley Community Pool are committed to providing a quality and continually improving aquatic centre and a range of activities which meet community needs.
We will:
- Listen to customers and provide solutions within our capacity
- Promote participation in sporting activities, learning to swim and community development
- Work with other organisations to provide the best service
- Keep our charity’s values and the community at the core of everything we do
- Support health and wellbeing in the wider community
- Provide a safe and friendly environment for aquatic and other leisure activities
Our Values
Wellbeing: We will provide a swimming pool for the community that enhances the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of the individuals using it.
Community Commitment: We are deeply connected with local people and community organisations and are committed to listening to their voices and regular engagement to guide what we do.
Equity and Inclusion: We believe that our centre and our community are stronger when they are full of opportunities for people with diverse identities, backgrounds and perspectives. We are committed to making our centre more equitable and inclusive.
Happiness: We believe every person deserves to have happiness in their life. We will provide opportunities for people to have fun everyday, recognising that happiness is the key that unlocks positive development and brighter futures.
Accountability: We hold ourselves responsible for ensuring Birtley Community Aquatic Centre maximises its impact, and we do what we say we will do.
Innovation: We move swiftly and continuously to innovate our approach in response to the needs of the people we work with and the community we are part of.
Partnership: We collaborate and build community through partnerships founded on integrity and trust.
In our dealings with our community, we pledge to always be open and honest, do what we say we will do, and learn from our mistakes resulting in all actions and decisions taken to be for the good of the centre and its future learning and growth.
Public opening times may be restricted on some days during the first two weeks
We are still waiting for the DBS checks to be completed for some of our lifeguards, so we do not yet have our full lifeguarding capability in place. For the weeks commencing 16th and 23rd September, we may need to restrict the hours when the pool is open to the public.
This will not affect the swimming lessons, for which the lifeguard requirements are slightly different due to the presence of swimming teachers.
During this period, we will post an update each evening at 20:00 on both our website and on our Facebook page, which will confirm the opening hours for public swimming activities the following day. You can also call us on 01914329444 to check the public opening hours and activities the following day.
